11.12.2011 - Second Saturday: Photography of James DeMarco
Art Opening - 6PM

Joey DeMarco is a local photographer, and Collingswood native, who lives behind a camera lens. He works his pictorial magic at weddings, family events, parties, and a great deal of other ventures when someone is awesome enough to pay him to do so. When not shooting important moments for others he is busy working on his own projects, including an ambitious "Star Wars" themed calendar and a year long 365 Project.

Being behind the camera is one of the greatest pleasures he has ever known and he hopes to continue to capture the most important moments of people’s lives for as long as possible.
When not behind the camera Joey enjoys Star Wars, anything from the 1980s, going to the movies, and hanging out with his incredibly awesome girlfriend. He would like to thank his parents, his family, and his friends for supporting him with his photography.

Check out his work at www.joeydemarco.net or find him on facebook at Photography By Joey D

Live Music - 8:30PM

Cris Valkyria was born and raised in Norway by a non-musical family. She picked up the guitar to accompany her poetry at the age of 17 when she had left the nest to try out her flying capabilities. Though music was central to her heart, she put education first and graduated as a licensed psychologist from the University of Oslo, and managed to see quite a bit of the world before she settled in Philadelphia, USA where she currently lives with her husband and son. In Philadelphia she decided to focus on the musical aspect of her selfhood, and is currently active on the Philadelphia music scene as an indie artist. She frequently performs the major music venues in Philadelphia with her band Cris Valkyria and the Opponents or as a solo artist. She is also often seen as a duo with Lou Paglione; either performing original Cris Valkyria songs, or as a part of a children songs project: Cris & Lou.

8.13.2011 - Midsummer Wonders: Photography by John Bere
Second Saturday - 6PM

Nothing has ever captured my heart as much as the sights and sounds of a county fair, amusement park or boardwalk. This fascination was clearly cemented during two years as a costumed mascot in an Ohio amusement park : joyful recollections of walking those midways still weave throughout my life. Summers are the season of memories and I hope that my photos will take you to your own summer wonders of long ago or perhaps a trip yet to come.
John's work will be on display from August 13th through September 9th, and during the Collingswood Crafts & Fine Art Festival.

6.9.2011 - Second Saturday - [WILL,FREE] Collective's
Art Opening - 6-11 PM

Do you remember when we were all artists?
Works suspended by magnets from refridgerator doors.
Each piece afforded endless understanding.
Open to a thousand intepretations.
Met with gold-star-rave-reviews.

Composition a moot point .Do you remember Rembrants scraping shovels at the sandbox's moist-wood base?Do you remember the creak and screaming metal moan of swingsets as Piccassos and Renoirs threw their legs furiously back and forth? With each chub-leg-thrust yelling, "higher! higher!"Do you remember the Van Goghs running with scissors?Do you remember Dali playing foursquare With Warhol, Klimt, and Pollock?Do you remember the Basquiats running in furious circles Before falling down to sleep? We do.We remember seeing our truest selves expressed in Crayola and chalk.

The [WILL,FREE] Collective formed in April 2011.
The [WILL,FREE] Collective advocates self-actualization through self-expression.
The [WILL,FREE] Collective advocates for true community art.

The Collective's Latest Piece:
There is a fundamental misconception that the central motivation of human communication is to speak and be heard. The Collective's latest installation posits instead that our motivation is to speak and be understood. "The truth is..." wall provides a medium for honest disclosure both with the self and others.

6.18.2011 - Fridays Live! with Deardarkhead
Live Music - 8:30PM

Formed in 1988, deardarkhead are a trio based in the Atlantic City, New Jersey area consisting of: guitarist Kevin Harrington, drummer Robert Weiss and bassist Kevin McCauley, who came on board during the fall of 2010 after the departure of longtime singer/bassist Michael Amper. Currently they are performing all instrumental shows but are seeking the right person to take over on vocals.

The group’s sound is openly and proudly Anglophilic, combining both elements of the blissout shoegazer scene and a slightly older vein of post-punk guitar experimentalism, making a rich combination between the two influences. Words like atmospheric, ethereal and dreampop are often used to describe their original guitar driven, psychedelic storm of sound that balances moody textures and shimmering melodies.

3.12.2011 - Second Saturday - National Picnic: "The Spring Thaw"
Opening and Community Event - 6PM - 10PM

Betsy Cook is preparing to launch a U.S.-made clothing label called National Picnic, consisting of women's casual separates. She joins the ranks of aspiring clothing designers after years of making clothing for her own personal satisfaction and for her own circle of friends. This is a very busy spring as she prepares to present her first professional collection at market within the year.

Taking an idea from simple sketches to finished garment is an often-hidden artistic step in the practical, universal need of clothing ourselves. Her hometown Spring 2010 exhibit at Grooveground results from a desire to share her creative process with her neighbors, family, and friends.

Betsy holds a BA in Sudio Art degree from Providence College and has as worked as a graphic designer for 18 years. She grew up in Collingswood and now lives there with her own family of four. She has also served as director of the Collingswood Farmer's Market since 2006, not a typical venue for fashion inspiration. But her experience there, seeing that people DO care to support the fruits of their "extended neighborhood ", encouraged her to pursue her love of sewing by making clothing personally and locally. For more about the clothing, visit NationalPicnic.com

There will be a one-of-a-kind trunk show at the Second Saturday reception, featuring women's tops, skirts, and dresses made during the process of developing final garment styles.
